The school bell rang for the last time before summer vacation, and certainly a wave of excitement swept through the entire classrooms.
Our children were already eagerly anticipating weeks filled with no stress , family trips, movie days, game days and certainly lazy days.
However, amidst the thrill of freedom, there’s an important aspect that often gets overlooked, which is the need to keep our books open, even during vacations.
In as much as vacations are essential for rejuvenation. They provide a much needed break from the rigors of academic life, allowing school children recharge their minds and bodies.
However, this doesn’t mean that learning should come to a complete halt.
In fact, summer can be an excellent opportunity to cultivate curiosity for new skills and hobbies as well as maintaining academic momentum.
And doing this sure comes with many benefits:
Retention of Knowledge:
Thorough research has shown that pupils and students in general can lose a significant portion of what they’ve learned during the school session if they don’t engage with the material over the break.
By revisiting subjects and concepts, students can reinforce their understanding and prevent the dreaded “summer slide.”
Lifelong Learning Habit:
Keeping books open during vacation fosters a love for learning. It encourages pupils and students to explore topics that interest them outside the confines of a traditional classroom.
Whether it’s diving into a novel, experimenting with science kits, or exploring online courses, maintaining an inquisitive mindset is key to a healthy reading habit.
Preparation for the New Academic Session:
As pupils and students pass to higher classes or grades, the curriculum becomes more challenging.
Engaging with academic material over the break can provide a head start, making the new class smoother when school resumes.
This proactive approach can instill confidence and reduce anxiety about returning to school in pupils and students.
Keeping your books open during vacations is not about turning breaks into mini school sessions, it’s about fostering a mindset that values continuous learning even outside the four walls of a classroom.
By embracing this philosophy, pupils and students can transform their vacations into wonderful experiences that would help them blend relaxation with intellectual growth.
While we wish them a fun-filled vacation, we look forward to seeing their beautiful faces next term!
We can’t wait!
